After severing music industry chains and laying Ewigkeit to
rest, James Fogarty is back with a new assault on ignorance
and complacency under the banner of his own Death to Music Productions.
As eclectic as its predecessor, but with firmer footing in the
industrial camp, the Bombs of Enduring Freedom’s debut
is a collection of hard-edged riffs, memorable choruses and
biting criticism of the contemporary (American) political regime,
compiled and combined within the “council-flat of mass
destruction.” Often Fogarty uses his soundscapes as a
backdrop, letting samples (and the sampled, including George
Bush) speak for themselves. But his lyrics also leave a lasting
impression, summarised neatly by titles like “G.I. Jesus”
or the wordier but poignant “Guatanamo Bay International
(Suspect Package Holiday).” The Bombs of Enduring Freedom
aren’t engaged in trailblazing but the record is invitingly
accessible and addictive as well; its worst fault is the sense
that it ends too soon. (Death to Music)

A sinister tone provides the underbelly of this well-crafted
DIY punk album filled with hints of industrial, a tinge of ambient,
and a whole lotta awful truths going on. Frightening image inducing
drum and bass hard trance punk rock covering everything from
war torn Baghdad to big brother to television-as-devil to G.I.Jesus
to neocons, the rapture, Eastern fundamentalists, Western fundamentalists,
and everythying in between. The Bombs of Enduring Freedom gives
us a better and bigger picture of what's going on in this cruel
cruel world than 10 years worth of CNN newscasts. Crazy part
about it all is that it's a very well produced and extremely
talent-filled album, but they're only offering 665 copies directly
from their website, so head over to www.TheBombsOfEnduringFreedom.com
and fulfill your patriotic duty punk!

The ones among you who keep (or kept) a closer eye on Ewigkeit
didn’t had any boring times lately. First there was the
release of the killer ‘Conspiritus’ album and the
video for ‘It’s Not Reality’, and not long
after a video appeared of Mister Fog burning all his past record
deals (including the one Ewigkeit had at that time with Earache
Records). Not too long after thát, the announcement came
that Ewigkeit has reached its end, but that already a new project
was born: The Bombs Of Enduring Freedom. October 12, 2007 will
bring us the self titled debut album of this new plague, limited
to 665 ‘slightly less evil’ copies. In the press
sheet, we’re welcomed for a journey to the American dream
slash reality of today: from Guantanamo Bay to the television
sets at home and back to the religious suicide and silly wargames.
Unfortunately there were no flight tickets for this event added
to the package, but don’t worry – the CD will do.
After the ‘Climate of Fear’ intro, the album continues
with ‘Identity Theft’. It’s a catchy and uptempo
track, which contains a strong guitar riff, powerful programming
works and melodic keylines. The vocal lines have a certain catchy
attitude, which is well supported by the clean and melodic vocal
works. ‘Beware The Bombs...’ is an instrumental
track (over seven minutes long!) which contains elements of
metal, industrial, (old school) EBM/electro and even a little
ambient. Some samples of falling bombs are slightly added here
and there to give the track the identity that it deserves with
a name like this. ‘Religious Suicide’ comes up next.
Lyrically it gives you a small look into the brains of a suicide
bomber, but musically there’s some more complexity hidden
in the track. Diverse sampling, wicked guitarwork (and I’m
not only talking about the solo after the first chorus –
keep a closer listen!), bashing drums and cold keyworks who
bring a certain atmosphere to the chorus. ‘Guantanamo
Bay International (Suspect Package Holiday)’ turns out
to be my favourite track of the record. The track has a little
sad atmosphere due to the vocal parts and the EBM sampling which
is hidden here and there. The chorus is catchy, the guitarwork
is extremely cool and diverse, and the drumparts manage to mix
this all together into one Hell of a classy song which is a
mixture of many alternative styles. ´Television´
is (lyrically) meant as a kick in the ass of todays society,
and more or less a preech to switch off the television and to
wake up in the real world. Musically it consists of a heavy
protounding bassline, some small ambient samples, midtempo programming
and guitarwork that´s a little less ´present´
than on the preverious tracks. ‘Wargames’ is again
a more uptempo track. It is built upon crazy programming and
a very strong bassline. Furthermore, it contains wicked sampling
and keyworks, and some little tunes reminding to a wellknown
Nintendo game in the end. It’s the only track that hasn’t
got the lyrics in the booklet, which is a shame because I think
they could be quite interesting. ‘The Rapture’ has
an ominous intro, followed by atmospheric and preaching parts
and a catchy and powerful chorus. It’s one of the more
‘accessible’ tracks of the record. Next up comes
‘G.I. Jesus’. Its a track with a sarcastic undertone
towards the U.S.A. On a high exception, I quote some lyrics
here: ‘Fighting for the cause of the U.S.A., G.I. Jesus
is on his way!’. Musically the track sounds like a cartoon
theme, introducing some brand new super hero who will save the
world. It’s probably the weirdest track on this record,
but the sense of humor really applies to me. Ironicly, the CD
ends with the song ‘End Times’. It’s a cool
uptempo industrial metal track, with EBM sampling, strong guitar-
and bassparts and melodic vocal lines. The vocal lines fit extremely
well with the song and the rest of the album.
It’s not very often that a mixture of industrial, EBM,
metal and ambient sounds this ‘natural’. James Fogarty
already proved with past projects (The Meads of Asphodel, Ewigkeit)
that nobody has to teach him the meaning of the words ‘songwriting’
and ‘originality’ anymore. This album is strictly
limited to 665 copies and is only available through their official
site. Take some advice for me: (pre-)order this album now before
it’s sold out already. It’s definitely worth the
wait and the money, because unfortunately with all these new
bands showing up these days it’s getting harder and harder
to find this kind of quality waiting to be picked up. I do wonder
how many orders will be from out of America though...

THE BOMBS OF ENDURING FREEDOM – The Bombs Of Enduring
Freedom (D.T.M) – Cut up paranoia and punkoid industrial
space rock CCTV barcode manipulation. Brainwashed cut ‘n
paste fundamentalist vs fundamentalist. Made in “The Council
Flat of Mass Destruction”, The Bombs are a media manipulation
that tastes of Hawkwind, Ministry, Killing Joke, Ian Brown,
The Orb, secret flights, orange suits and post cards from Baghdad.
Death is glory and god wants you to buy this (or something like
that). Identity theft and twenty-four hour surveillance and
sample this. cut up that – a suspect package holiday in
someone else’s misery. Samples, riffs, soundbites. Lead
by James Fogarty (formally of Ewigkeit), nice manipulation of
the BBC News 24 theme there... Where is G.I Jesus? Who are those
neo cons? Can you get this in your local shopping mall? The
answers are probably not to be found over at www.thebombsofenduringfreedom.com

In my childhood, my parents thought they were Communists. They
weren’t, really. Like many others of that generation,
better jobs and a flow of materialistic goods changed their
ways and opinions as the 80s progressed, and when the wall finally
came tumbling down, there was very little faith left in the
whole idea; Communism had, so to speak, sold out.
But those years are deeply rooted in me. There was a certain
spirit of that time, when my folks were against basically anything
that came from the sitting government, the United States and
the budding EU (or EEC as it was called back then) and that
spirit is something I can still recognise miles off. When I
listened to James Fogarty’s Ewigkeit the first time, there
was a spark of that very same spirit, his agenda definitely
not lying to the right of the political centre.
Now that Fogarty’s redefined Ewigkeit and turned it into
The Bombs of Enduring Freedom (perhaps because the German name
caused too many misunderstandings), the style has also been
a further refinement of the style of music that was experimented
with on Ewigkeit’s swansong, the excellent ‘Conspiritus’
(2005).
Fogarty is still against basically anything that could restrict
the individual freedom for all of us, including all the brilliant
initiatives that religious groups come up with (Religious Suicide),
the internment of supposed terrorists without proof (Guantanamo
Bay International (Suspect Package Holiday)) and the way the
media are leading us into conformity (Television). And there’s
no love lost between Fogarty and our big allied on the other
side of the Atlantic; G.I. Jesus is a rather blunt comment on
the behaviour of the Americans (and a hilarious imagery, by
the way).
Musically, TBOEF employs many of the same elements as Ewigkeit
did on its last opus. Heavy guitars are mixed with electronic
beats, samples and extremely catchy, pop-like vocal lines –
paradoxical as this is when you consider Fogarty’s insistence
on clinging to the underground. But the conclusion is that Fogarty’s
song writing talent should not be underestimated – I wonder
what could become of it if he were to team up with a real band?

Imagine KMFDM at their best moments and you’ll get an
idea in which musical corner you’ll have to categorize
The Bombs of Enduring Freedom. This is an industrial rock-metal
project of James Fogarty, who was earlier active with the experimental
blackmetal band Ewigkeit. The Bombs of Enduring Freedom however
pack their critical message in accessible industrial rock and
metal. This fun release has next to the industrial rock and
metal also some gothic rock. America is convicted as the big
aggressor in the world and the terror of fear (‘Climate
of Fear’) that has been deployed all over the free world
following in the footsteps of the Bush administration is being
criticised, since it is actually destroying the freedom and
civil rights of the same population that with these measures
should be won for the battle against terrorism. Insane fundamentalists
in the East and insane fundamentalists in the West. The media
and impact of television play a dubious part in this story.
The Bombs of Enduring Freedom take us on a hallucinatory trip
through a war-torn Bagdad where the newest ‘Wargames’
are being tested, illustrate how ‘Big Brother’ applies
‘Identity Theft’ while the suicide terrorist takes
the same budget flight via ‘Guantanamo Bay International
(suspect package holiday)’ as you on the way to your favourite
holiday destination. Will ‘G.I. Jesus’ come and
save us from this self-justifying neo-deception? The Bombs of
Enduring Freedom know this won’t happen and expresses
it’s rage through catchy industrial rock songs on this
first self-titled EP.

Limited to 665 copies, the first THE BOMBS OF ENDURING FREEDOM
self titled album will be released the 12th of October and will
be available only directly from the band's website. New project
of James Fogarty (also active with The Blacksmoke Organisation,
and formerly of Ewigkeit and The Meads Of Asphodel) the band
composed 10 tracks inspired by the sound of late Prong, Revolting
Cocks and Killing Joke of tracks like "Money is not our
God". The CD is a concept album which focus on media lies
and on the American mass campaign of false freedom war. The
lyrics point the finger toward all these subjects and "G.I.
Jesus" with its opening lines could be a good example:
"Fighting for the cause of the USA / G.I. Jesus is on his
way/ Taking on the world is a damn fine thing! / Better than
looking at the shit you're in". Musically we pass from
a alternative industrial metal to an alternative e.b.m. metal
which could find its place also on MTV for the kind of sound
proposed and the catchy melodies (with a refrain which easily
sticks into your ears). Note that the sound isn't created on
purpose (read: only for selling copies), because this album
is self produced and limited! On some songs the band use also
electro e.b.m. lines and samples but guitars and drums are always
in a prominent place. If you are looking for 42 minutes of good
powerful industrial metal full of melody and energy with a punk
attitude, try this one. P.s. An album like this, if released
by a major label could sell thousands of copies...

Coming from DTM Productions TBOEF is a unique project which
successfully blends industrial metal with ambient
touches (plus other styles) over an explicit political background.
It is music with political content, but it goes beyond
all those politized punk bands, The Bombs is more complex than
that.
It could be descrived as the soundtrack for the apocalyptic
times we are living in as it touches different issues, from
western/eastern fanatism to the extremelly surveyed societies
of nowadays, all those problems are dealt with lots of melody
and aggression forming a perfect cautivating duality that goes
along with the sound quality, because the production in this
album is also top-notch. Some of the best tracks are 'Beware
the bombs of enduring freedom','Identity theft','Television'
and 'End times', but the album holds more surprises within.
This album is a rarity, you won't find music with this quality
and creativity nowadays.

Hailz, and all that bullshit!
The bombs of enduring freedom did nothing short of present
me with THE album of the year 2007. Cold critics of modern society
combined with exceptional crosses of industrialized sampling
and metal. a masterpiece and nothing less.. cheers from Knut
from norway!
